Universities and Museum are normally in charge
of the  maintenance and preservation of algae herbarium either
on herbarium sheets or liquid preparations. Algae specimen
collections are a reference for scientists. The Algal Collection
of the U.S. National Herbarium is represented by over 200.000
specimens. Sea
aquarium have very often some display
about seaweeds.
